Summary

Rewas Ports Ltd (RPL) is planning to undertake the construction of a port in Maharashtra, India.

The project involves the construction of a port with a cargo handling capacity of 457 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) including 70 berths. The project will be executed in three phases.

The first phase involves the construction of port facilities with a cargo handling capacity of 66MTPA. It includes the construction of nine berths to cater container, dry and liquid bulk, general cargo and car carrier, and the dredging of over 120 million m3 in the Amba River at Rewas.

The second phase involves the construction of port facilities with a cargo handling capacity of 132MTPA and 16 berths.

The third phase of the project involves the construction of port facilities with a cargo handling capacity of 259MTPA and 45 berths.

The project includes the construction of warehouses, storage facilities and road/railway corridor connecting the port to major centers, and the laying of power transmission and distribution network, telecommunication network and water supply network.

The project is planned to be developed on build-own-operate-share-transfer (BOOST) pattern by Reliance Logistics. It is being designed as an all-weather, multi-cargo, deep draft port to meet the expected demand-supply shortfall in port traffic by 2020.

The US$771 million funds for the project will be provided by a consortium of banks led by ICICI Bank.

The planning for the first phase of the project is complete and necessary approvals have been obtained for commencement.

IL&FS has been appointed as financial advisor.

In the year 2011, the project was put on hold due to issues with regulatory clearances over land acquisition.

On May 3, 2016, forest advisory committee (FAC) of the Union ministry of environment and forests sanctioned 86ha of forest land to develop the port.

Environmental clearance is revalidated up to May 2017.

Planning activities are underway.
