Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is planning to upgrade a road segment along the Jane Street and Mulgoa Road intersection in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia.
The project involves the upgrade of Jane Street and Mulgoa Road intersection.
It includes the construction of an additional lane both north and south bound from Museum Drive to Union road, a longer left turn lane along Mulgoa Road for vehicles turning onto the Great Western Highway, High Street and Mulgoa Road widening, upgrade to T-intersection of Jane Street and Castlereagh/Mulgoa Road, a rial underpass will be widened to three lanes in each direction on Castlereagh Road and a left turn lane into Jane Street and related facilities.
In December 2014, RMS conducted a technical study on the project with a number of community consultation, investigations.
During the study, RMS identified Thirteen options for the project and selected the best design option for the project.
On February 25, 2015, the NSW Government announced a commitment to investigate further options to improve Mulgoa Road between Andrews Road and Glenmore Park.
New South Wales Government and Government of Australia have committed US$26 million each for the project.
SMEC has been appointed design contract for the project.
In May 2016, the Australian government has allocated US$5 million as part of 2016–17 Budget. However the remaining funding will be secured till 2019-2020.
On August 23, 2016, tenders were invited from Professional services contractors to undertake the detailed design and construction documentation for the project.
From November 2016 to December 16, 2016, RMS received feedback from the community and stakeholders during the display of the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors.
From February 27, 2017, to March 27, 2017, geotechnical field investigation work was carried out to help further refine the design of the project.
In May 2017, Federal Government announced US$26 million funding in equity for the project over next 10 years. Out of which US$11 million to be provided for planning and preparatory work in 2017-18.
The government plans to establish a government-owned company with strong private sector expertise in FY2017/18 to manage the development process.
RMS is in the process of seeking planning approval for the project. Tender is expected to issue in 2018.
