Summary

PT Rajamandala Electric Power (REP), a joint venture between PT Indonesia Power (PTIP), a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and The Kansai Electric Power Co Inc. (KEPCO) is undertaking the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Cihea Village, Haurwangi, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia.

The project involves the construction of a 47MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, substation, a weir, intake, headrace tunnel, head tank, spillway, penstock, tailrace tunnel, outlet, switchyard, access road, access bridge, dam and other related infrastructure facilities, the installation of turbines and generators and the laying of transmission lines.

The approximately 1.2km headrace will consist of tunnel and open channel sections connecting the intake and the head tank, which regulates water flow volumes. The approximately 8km 150kV transmission line will supply power to the grid, connecting the switchyard to an existing 150kV transmission line and grid network owned by PLN.

In April 2014, Hyundai Engineering Co Ltd was appointed as construction contractor with a contract value of US$91.3 million.

On June 24, 2014, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has signed a loan agreement, in project financing, totaling up to US$66 million with REP for financing the proposed development. The loan is co-financed with Mizuho Bank, Ltd., which brings the total co-financing amount to about US$110 million. The remaining amount will be financed with equity funding by REP.

In August 2014, the project has achieved financial closure and construction work on the project commenced.

In September 2014, a joint venture of Voith Hydro Inc and Fuji Electric Co Ltd was appointed as supply contractor. The team will be responsible for overall engineering and procurement as the main contractor, to supply a set of Kaplan type hydraulic turbine and generator.

Baker & McKenzie has been appointed as legal adviser for the project.

Construction work is underway and scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2017.

The project involves the construction of a 47MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant in Rajamandala on Citarum basin, Cianjur Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia.
