Queensland Rail (QR) is planning to upgrade the rail freight line in Queensland, Australia.
The project involves the upgrade of freight rail-line. It will include the construction of a new 6.5km line, platforms, warehouses and other related facilities, the installation of signals, and the laying of railway tracks.
GHD has been appointed as study consultant and BDO as an advisor for the project.
In July 2009, the master plan for the project was released. In January 2012, a preliminary evaluation study was completed.
Guildford Coal Ltd and the Port of Townsville have provided funds for the study activities on the project.
The Government is in the process of creating partnerships with the Queensland and Northern Territory Governments to undertake feasibility studies for the project.
A total of US$4.4 million has been allocated for the feasibility study for the project, out of which federal government has allocated US$3.7 million and northern territory government has committed US$0.74 million.
The project involves the upgrade of freight line from Mount Isa to Townsville in Queensland, Australia.
