Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) is undertaking the construction of Kelana Jaya to Port Klang Light Rail Transit Line project in Selangor, Malaysia.
The project involves the construction of a light rail transit system of 37km from Kelana Jaya to Port Klang, of 26 stations, with proposed sub-two kilometer distances between them, also interchanges with Bandar Utama MRT station, Pelabuhan Klang KTM station and a proposed SIRIM Shah Alam BRT station.
It includes the construction of a new railway line, stations, the laying of tracks, the installation of signaling units and electric lines, the laying of rail tracks.
The 26 stations are, Bandar Utama (Interchange with MRT SBK Line/MRT Line 1), Damansara Utama, Tropicana, Lien Hoe, Dataran Prima, Persada PLUS, Station 3/Glenmarie (Interchange with LRT Kelana Jaya Line Extension), Temasya, Hicom-Glenmarie, Stadium (Interchange with the proposed BRT Kuala Lumpur-Klang), Persiaran Hishamuddin (Underground Station), Section 14, SIRIM (Interchange with the proposed BRT Kuala Lumpur-Klang), UITM, i-City, Bukit Raja, Kawasan 17, Jalan Meru, Klang (Interchange with KTM Komuter Batu Caves-Pelabuhan Klang), Taman Selatan, Sri Andalas, Tesco Bukit Tinggi, AEON Bukit Tinggi, Bandar Botanik and Johan Setia (Depot).
In May 2014, feasibility studies were completed.
In May 2015, seven companies has shown interest in project, out of which six parties were shortlisted for the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) role by Prasarana, named as The Naza Group and CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd Joint venture (JV); Gamuda Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd JV; Malaysian Resources Corp and George Kent (M) Bhd JV; UEM Group Bhd; Sunway Bhd; WCT Bhd and AlloyMtd Group JV.
The last date for tender submission is the first week of June 2015.
In September 2015, Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) and George Kent (M) Bhd were appointed as the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) for the project. ERE Consulting Group has been appointed as environmental consultant.
The tenders for the project will be issued in phases.
In May 2016, Prasarana has issued tenders for eight work packages in the first phase.
Prasarana shortlisted 96 companies out of 124 for the eight work packages. The eight categories under the infrastructure and systems packages, including stations, viaducts, park and ride facilities, ancillary buildings, train depots (open and bumiputra), cut and cover (open) and bus depots (bumiputra).
In May 2016, Systra has been appointed as a preliminary design consultant.
In June 2016, Prasarana announced that 24 companies are pre-qualified for three work packages of for advanced works in the second phase. These work packages include of track works and conductor power rails, depot equipment and track maintenance vehicles, and automated fare collection. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Consortium; Alstom Transport SA; China Communication Construction Company Ltd and Gerbang Kesuma Sdn Bhd; Colas Rail System Engineering Sdn Bhd and Colas Rail SA Consortium; KUB Telekomunikasi Sdn Bhd and Samwon FA Co Ltd were pre-qualified for these three packages
In November 2016, CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd, Siemens China, and Tegap Dinamik Sdn Bhd joint venture is the only consortia submitted bids for rolling stocks package out of five companies expressed interest. The PDP is in process of decision making whether to re-tender for rolling stock or to award the contract to the only consortium.
In August 2017, Prasarana awarded US$363 million construction contract to a consortium of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd, Siemens China, and Tegap Dinamik Sdn Bhd and scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of 42 six-car LRVs for operation on the project.
Construction is expected to complete by August 31, 2020.
