Pospower Co., Ltd (Pospower), a subsidiary of POSCO Energy, is planning to undertake the construction of a new coal-fired power plant project in Gangwon Province, Republic of Korea.
The project involves the construction of a 2,000MW coal-fired power plant comprising two units, each with a power generating capacity of 1,000MW.
The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, substation, raw water storage tanks and coal storage unit, the installation of supercritical circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boilers, steam turbines and generators, and the laying of water transmission pipelines.
On June 7, 2013, Before the acquisition of plant by Pospower, KEPCO E&C has signed the Owner’s Engineering Service Agreement with Tongyang Power consortium.
The scope of the contract covers the conceptual design, EPC bidding guide generation, review and approval of documents submitted by special purpose corporation (SPC) contractor, and support of power plant construction permission and approval.
KDB Bank will provide funds for the project implementation.
In November 2015, Doosan Heavy Industries has been selected as the preferred bidder for equipment supply contract.
On March 22, 2017, the project secured the approval Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Energy for the construction plan.
In December 2017, the Ministry of Environment accepted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
POSCO E&C and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction were appointed as the construction contractors.
Pospower is planning to commence the construction in April 2018 and scheduled to complete by 2021.
