Poseidon Transmission LLC (Poseidon), a subsidiary of Anbaric Transmission LLC, is planning to build an undersea transmission line from New Jersey to New York in the US.
The project involves the construction of a 132km HVDC electric transmission line comprising 77km underwater and 55km of underground line from South Brunswick, New Jersey to Huntington, New York with a capacity to transfer around 500MW of power.
It includes the construction of converter stations, control buildings, substations and related infrastructure, the installation of power control units, transformers and power control units, and the laying of transmission lines.
In October 2013, Poseidon filed an application with the New York State Public Service Commission for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to build the project.
On March 9, 2015, the project received interconnection approvals from the PJM Interconnection and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO).
In March 2015, the New York Public Service Commission has begun a formal project review.
On March 24, 2016, Poseidon initiated the process of seeking proposals from suppliers capable of collaboration with the Poseidon Transmission Project to furnish new renewable energy, associated capacity and renewable energy credits (RECs), as well as capacity and ancillary services from PJM Interconnection, with submission date of May 13, 2016, and June 1, 2016.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2021.
