Petronas Carigali (Petronas) is undertaking the Block SK316 gas field development project in Malaysia.
The project involves the development of two gas fields (NC3 and NC8) with a production capacity of 2.6 trillion standard cubic feet (TSCF) of net gas. The project is planned to be implemented in phases.
The first phase of the project involves the development of a NC3 gas field with a production capacity of 600 million cubic feet per day of gas.
The project includes the construction of a central processing platform, a bridge-linked wellhead platform at the NC3 discovery and other related facilities, the laying of 75km pipeline, and the installation of machinery, equipment and safety system.
Three companies submitted bids for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract. They are namely, Berlian McDermott Sdn Bhd (a JV of McDermott and TH Heavy Engineering); Saipem (M) Sdn Bhd; and Technip-MMHE joint venture; via a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) competition with subsequent rollover to EPCIC contract.
On September 27, 2013, a joint venture (JV) of France's Technip and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE) was awarded the EPCIC contract for the project on turnkey basis.
The central processing platform and a bridge-linked wellhead platform will be constructed at MMHE’s fabrication yard at Pasir Gudang in Johor and the pipeline will be installed by one of Technip’s pipe-laying vessels.
On October 7, 2013, the Technip-MMHE JV secured confirmation for the EPCIC contract worth US$678.15 million.
Engineering and procurement activities on the project started in April 2014 and are underway.
Technip-MMHE JV subcontracted the offshore transportation and installation scope to Swiber Holdings-Alam Swiber Sdn Bhd JV for NC3 gas field project.
The scope of work was divided into two campaigns. The first campaign involved the transportation and installation of a Wellhead Platform Jacket and Topside, the launching and installation of a Central Process Platform Jacket and the installation of a link bridge between the two platforms. The offshore installation for Campaign one was carried out between March and May 2015.
The second campaign involved the installation by float-over of the CPP topside on the previously installed Jacket. This work was performed in September, 2015 while the actual mating of the topside was performed in less than 4 hours on September 12, 2015.
In April 2015, 75% work of ALE has been completed with the shifting of the LQ for the CPP topside and the supply of the mooring winch for the topside, bridge and CPP jacket.
PAPE Engineering was appointed as the transportation and installation contractor of the platform jacket.
Sea Trucks Group was awarded a contract for the provision of an Accommodation Vessel to support the NC3 CPP platform hook-up and commissioning work. The contract period for the work was from September 2016 to January 2016
In October 2016, Trelleborg completed the supply of floatover equipment for Pape Engineering.
In the fourth quarter of 2016, construction work was completed on the NC3 gas field.
Petronas is in the process of selecting a partner for the development of NC8 gas field development.
The project involves the development of two gas fields (NC3 and NC8) with a production capacity of 2.6TSCF of net gas in Block SK316 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
The US$800 million project includes the following:
