PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II), the Indonesia's state port operator, is planning to undertake the Sorong Container Port project in West Papua, Indonesia.
The project involves construction of a sea-port with 15 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity. Once completed, the port will replace the existing facilities.
It includes the construction of quay walls, container terminals, container space, a switch yard, administrative space and related infrastructural facilities.
Pelindo II will join a consortium consisting PT Samudera Indonesia, Tbk, PT Meratus Line, PT Tempuran Emas, Tbk, PT Pelindo IV, PT Salam Pasifik Indonesia Lines, Inc. Tanto Intim Line and PT Pembangunan Perumahan to develop the project.
Approximately 70% of the funding is expected from loans and the rest from equity.
In October 2015, Pelindo II is in the process of land acquisition and is awaiting planning approvals.
In March 2016, Pelindo II is in the process of seeking partner.
