PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is undertaking the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on Peusangan River in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia.
The project involves the construction of 88MW hydroelectric power plant comprising two 22.5MW units each, and two 21.5MW units each of capacity.
The project includes the construction of a dam, a powerhouse, a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of turbines, transformers and generators and the laying of transmission lines.
The project has received the funding under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In January 2011, the two foreign companies who submitted the bids were identified as a consortium of PT Wijaya Karya Beton and Shimizu Corporation, and a consortium of Hyundai Corporation and PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk.
In mid-February 2011, a consortium of Hyundai Corporation and PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk was awarded a US$339.4 million construction contract.
Nippon Koei Co. Ltd has been appointed as a technical consultant.
The metal joint operation work is being carried out by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, 150kV transmission lines and substations work by Balfour Beatty Sakti consortium comprising PT Gift Berca and Balfour Beatty Sakt.
Electro-mechanical work is being carried out by Andritz Hydro AG (Andritz). Andritz’s scope of supply consists of vertical Francis turbines, generators, transformers, 150kV switchyards, EOT cranes and comprehensive mechanical and electrical auxiliaries of the plant.
On March 21, 2011, construction work commenced and is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
