Proactive Energy Limited (PEL), a Scottish renewable energy company, is planning to undertake the construction of Biomass Power Plant project at Junction 11 M74, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, the UK.
The project involves the construction of 5MW biomass gas fired power plant with a capacity to treat 1,35,000 tonnes of organic waste material per annum. It includes the construction of a waste management system, technical building, 5 fermenter tanks, 5 digester tanks, 6 pre-storage tanks and 3 de-sulphurisation tanks.
It also includes the construction of Weigh Bridge, gatehouse, bulk Store and the car parking area.
The plant will use the AD process to generate electricity. Methane rich bio-gas will be generated by using bacterial cultures on organic waste within enclosed silo tanks. The captured bio-gas will then be used to fuel engines, which generate renewable electricity that can be fed into the National Grid.
The plant also produces by-products from the AD process, such as plastics and metals from food containers. These by-products will be sent for recycling and the residue that remains at the end of process will be sold on as a high quality natural fertilizer.
In November 2009, the project has received the planning approvals from South Lanarkshire Council.
