Photovolt Development Partners GmbH (PDP) is undertaking a solar power plant in Ukujima, Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan.
The project involves the construction of a 480MW solar power plant. It includes the construction of a substation and related facilities, the installation of 1,650,000 multicrystalline silicon solar panels and transformers, and the laying of a 60km undersea transmission cable.
In June 2014, PDP entered into a partnership agreement with Kyocera Corporation (Kyocera), Kyudenko Corporation (Kyudenko), Orix Corp (Orix) and Mizuho Bank Ltd (Mizuho).
TeraSol G K (TeraSol), a special-purpose company, was established for the project development.
Orix and Mizuho will provide financial services and Kyocera will supply solar panels.
Ukujima Mega Solar Park Service (UMSPS) Corp will be responsible for negotiations on land, and sublease it to TeraSol.
Kyocera and Kyudenko will undertake the construction and operation of the project and Mizuho Bank will provide funding for TeraSol.
PDP entered into a power purchase agreement with Kyushu Electric Power Inc. (Kyushu). Under the terms of an agreement, Kyushu will construct a 60km undersea cable between Ukujima and Kyushu to feed the power to the grid.
The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, has been appointed as the lead consultant.
In January 2018, SPCG Public Co Ltd, Tokyo Century Corporation, Furukawa Electric Co Ltd, Tsuboi Corporation, The Eighteenth Bank Ltd has been appointed as associated developers for the project.
Planning activities are underway.
