Pirpainti Bijlee Co. Pvt. Ltd (PBCPL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) promoted by Government of Bihar/BSEB and IL&FS, is planning construct a thermal power plant in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, India.
The project involves the construction of 1,320MW coal-based thermal power plant with two units of 660MW each on 399ha of land.
It includes the construction of coal washing unit, raw water storage tanks, a switchyard for power evacuation, a powerhouse, a substation, the installation of turbines, generators, transformers and water transmission pipeline, and the laying of transmission lines.
The project will require around 6.25MMTPA of coal. The Government of Bihar has provided consent for 55cusec of water from river Ganga. The project will adopt an advanced super critical technology that would reduce carbon dioxide emission besides burning less fuel with higher output.
Fitchner Consulting Engineers has been appointed as the feasibility study consultant.
In February 2014, Bihar State Power Generation Co., National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and PBCPL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the proejct implementation.
