Summary

The joint venture of Pan African Health Foundation (PAHF) and Rivers State Government (RSG) is undertaking the construction of an integrated medical devices factory in Rivers State, Nigeria.

The project involves the construction of an integrated medical devices factory on 46,451m2 area.

The project will include the construction of a plant with 1 billion syringes per annum, a 1 billion per annum hypodermic needles plant, a 105 million sets per annum IV-Giving-Set plant, a 90 million litres per annum IV solutions, medication and injectables plant and a 14MW captive gas-fired power plant, water processing plants, an energy centre, staff quarters, a carton factory and a medical store.

In April 2012, Sortimat, Austroplan and Rommelag were appointed as general contractors for the project.

ESL Export Ltd won the contract to design, supply and install in excess of 75,000m2 area Kingspan insulated roof and wall cladding systems for the project.

Fletcher Rae was appointed as lead design co-coordinator on the project. The company will manage 26 consultants working for the project implementation.

Integrated Medical Industries Ltd (IMI) has been appointed as associated developer for the project.

In May 2013, Clarke Energy was appointed as installation contractor on 14MW captive gas-fired power plant.

The project is being funded with equity participation between the Rivers State Government and the Export Credit Agency (ECA) of Germany and Austria. ECA is providing 85% of the funds for machinery and equipment, while the Rivers State Government is putting in 15% for machinery and equipment, including the civil works up to the completion of the project.

In September 2016, the project is awaiting a Federal Government guarantee to secure a European Bank loan for the completion of the project.

Scope

The project involves the construction of an integrated medical devices factory on 46,451m2 area at Rumuosi along the East-West Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

The US$357 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a one billion syringes per annum syringe plant

1. Construction of a one billion per annum hypodermic needles plant

2. Construction of a 105 million sets per annum IV-Giving-Set plant

3. Construction of a 90MLPA IV solutions/medication and injectables plant

4. Construction of 14MW captive gas-fired power plant

5. Construction of water processing plants

6. Construction of an energy centre

7. Construction of staff quarters

8. Construction of a carton factory
