Oman Tourism Development (Omran) is planning to undertake the Muscat Sultan Qaboos Port redevelopment project in Oman.
The project involves the redevelopment of 450,000m2 of Sultan Qaboos Port comprising six hotels, 1,500 hotel rooms, 65 apartments, 219 family residential units in four zones.
The zone 1 includes the construction of fisherman wharf, a fish souq, a five-star marina hotel, a four-star family hotel and a hotel.
The zone 2 named as resort zone includes the construction of five-star resort hotel, a four-star resort hotel, conference and banquet facility, a world-class wellness spa and residences, cafes and shops, beach clubs and residences, sports, tennis and leisure clubs, children’s village, clusters of elegant hotel branded townhouses and apartments.
The zone 3 named as cruise zone includes the construction of an upscale boutique hotel and residential apartments.
The zone 4 named as Hay Al Mina includes the construction of a budget hotel, convenience shops, a football field and a club house, parking and related facilities.
Atkins as designer and Port Services Corporation (PSC) have been appointed as management contractor.
The project is developed under public private partnership (PPP) mode with 51% from Omran and 49% by the private investors.
In June 2014, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Oman (MoTC) floated a tender for selecting an international consultant for redeveloping Muscat's Sultan Qaboos Port into a tourism port. The selected consultant will advise the ministry on how to implement the master plan approved by the government in 2013, for converting the port into a full-fledged tourism port.
In January 2016, Omran received Expression of Interest (EOI) from Mandarin Oriental, Hyatt, the Viceroy, the Hilton, the Taj, the Banyan Tree, Chedi and Four Seasons.
In November 2016, Phase 1 of the project has been launched.
HD23 is a joint venture between architect Nadia Al Lawati and Harper Downie, has appointed as lead consultants and master planners,Foster and Partners and Hoehler and Al Salmy are appointed as architectural consultants and Blizzard Brothers as construction manager for phase 1.
Construction works on the zone 1 are under development and expected to be complete in 2020 and entire project in 2027.
