Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), Chambal Fertilizer and Chemicals Ltd (CFL) and Tripura State Government (GoT) are jointly planning to construct the Gas-based Urea Fertilizer Plant project in northern Tripura, India.
The project involves the construction of a fertilizer plant with production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) on 323.7ha of land.
The project includes the construction of a production unit, an office facility, a warehouse, and distribution units and the installation of machinery, safety and security systems.
In January 2012, ONGC invited expression of interest (EOI) to select a strategic partner for the project. In April 2012, six companies expressed their interest to form a joint venture with ONGC to develop the project.
In September 2012, Tata Chemicals was shortlisted as the private partner by ONGC to develop the project.
In November 2012, the project received approval from the Tripura State government and Tripura acquired 10% stake in the joint venture of the project.
In March 2013, Tata Chemicals are withdrawn from the project when the ONGC turned down its proposal to have 51 percent share in the venture.
On April 9, 2013, ONGC signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan based Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (CFCL) and Tripura government for development of the project.
