OCI Co. Ltd (OCI) through its subsidiary, OCISE Co. Ltd (OCISE) is undertaking the construction of a production factory in North Jeollado Province, South Korea.

The project involves the construction of a production factory on 155ha of land to produce solar energy materials.

It includes the construction of a carbon black plant, an acid, and alkali unit, a carbon materials unit and a 303MW (2X151.5MW) co-generation (combined heat and power plant) over an area of 162,153m2.

In August 2010, OCI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gunsan city and Saemangeum Gunsan Free Economic Zone Association to develop the project.

In October 2011, OCI acquired a license from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy to develop combined heat and power plant.

In April 2012, OCI decided to establish a subsidiary to operate the project.

On October 1, 2013, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction was awarded US$470 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the power plant.

On October 22, 2013, construction work on the power plant commenced.

In April 2016, construction works completed on 303MW Co-generation power plant.

In May 2016, the plans for the development of a 24,000 metric tons per annum (MTPA) polysilicon plant was canceled.

Planning activities are underway. However facing delay due to funding issues.

The project involves the construction of a production factory on 155ha of land to produce solar energy materials at Saemangeum Industrial Complex in Gunsan, North Jeollado Province, South Korea.

The US$9,820 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a carbon black plant

2. Construction of an acid and alkali unit

3. Construction of a 303MW co-generation plant

4. Construction of a carbon materials unit
