National Grid is planning to undertake the power transmission line project in North Wales, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a new power line which will be executed in three phases.
The first phase will include the construction of an overhead line between Wylfa and Pentir, which will strengthen existing 400kV overhead line on Anglesey. Initially, the corridor is planned with four possible route corridors across Anglesey and five possible crossing options across the Menai Strait to Pentir.
The second phase will include the construction of a substation in West Gwynedd to maintain reliable supplies to homes and businesses in the area and accommodate the extra power being proposed in North Wales, by making use of the wires on both sides of the overhead line between Pentir and Trawsfynydd.
The third phase will include the construction of a 6km underground connection at the Glaslyn Estuary to handle the increased energy capacity. It will replace the existing overhead electricity line in West Gwynedd that runs from Pentir to Trawsfynydd by a 6km underground cable at Wern, to the west of Tremadog.
The project will include the construction of substations, transmission stations, distribution substations and other related infrastructure, the lying of electric line, and the installation of electric feeder systems.
National Grid had undertaken the need case, strategic options report and initial route corridor report publishing and a public consultation from October to December 2012.
In the fourth quarter of 2013, public consultation on the first phase of the project has been completed.
In July 2016, National Grid is reviewing all the public responses to produce a feedback report and also carrying out further technical and environmental studies.Scope
