The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is undertaking the replacement of Whirokino Trestle and Manawatu River Bridges on State Highway 1 near Foxton town in Horowhenua District, New Zealand.
The project involves the construction of two separate bridges. It includes the construction of access roads, pedestrian walkways and related infrastructure, the demolition of the two existing bridges, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
MWH Global has been appointed as the study consultant and Bloxam Burnett & Olliver Ltd as the consulting engineer for the project.
In February 2013, a feasibility study on the project was completed.
In November 2015, the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF), an organization of NZTA approved funding for the project.
On March 10, 2016, NZTA invited registration of interest (RoI) from contractors for the design-build contract of the project with submission deadline as March 18, 2016.
The works to be implemented by the contractor include the development of the final design for construction, securing the necessary approvals and permits, the supply of all labour materials and plant for the construction of the project to the prescribed standards and conditions.
In July 2016, NZTA invited contractors for the design-build contract with last submission date as August 1, 2016.
In December 2016, The Fletcher Construction Company Ltd (Fletcher) was appointed as the design-build contractor.
Fletcher is in process of finalizing the environmental management plans before the commencement of construction works in 2017.
