The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) is undertaking the construction of a integrated water supply system in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
The project involves the construction of a drinking water supply system that will provide a service to over 280,000 residents of Anuradhapura South. It includes the construction of two new drinking water treatment plants and the expansion of another existing treatment plant for a total production of 51,000 m3/day drinking water.
The project also includes a water distribution network with 140km of pressurized pipe and a 175km distribution network, as well as several storage tanks necessary to ensure that the system operates properly.
On June 3, 2016, a consortium led by Tecnicas de Desalinizacion de Aguas S.A. (Tedagua), comprising Makiber SA and Grupo COBRA, were awarded a turnkey contract to undertake design, construction, supply, installation, commissioning and training of all personnel necessary for operating the drinking water supply system.
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and Societe Generale Group will provide funds for the project along with a commercial credit entity.
