Northwest Natural Gas Company (NWN) is undertaking the expansion of a natural gas-storage facility in Oregon, the US.
The project involves the construction of 71,000,000m3 underground storage facility.
It includes the construction of an additional compressor station with capacity of 3,331,392m3 of gas per day, new reservoir, four storage wells, gas processing facilities and other related facilities, and the laying of a 20km pipeline having a diameter of 0.6m.
In February 2015, NWN received approval from Portland General Electric (PGE) to move forward with the permitting and land acquisition work required for the project.
In April 2016, the project received environmental siting permits.
In October 2016, project received Notice to Proceed from Portland General Electric Company to provide long-term no-notice underground natural gas storage services for PGE’s generating plants.
On November 28, 2016, SNC-Lavalin secured engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on turnkey basis. The scope of work includes the laying of a 20km pipeline, installation of the pipeline, construction of a compressor station and the reservoir.
During the fourth quarter of 2016 and early 2017, the company began constructing the main well pad and drilling the wells.
Construction works are underway and expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018.
