Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Ltd., a joint venture of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Shell Gas BV, Elf and Agip, is planning to undertake the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Rivers State, Nigeria.
The project involves the construction of the seventh LNG liquefaction train to raise the total production capacity of the current 22 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 30 MTPA.
It includes the construction of two LNG storage tanks, loading and unloading facilities, and the laying of gas transmission pipelines.
In May 2007, KBR, Inc. and its joint venture partners JGC Nigeria Ltd, TECHNIP Offshore Nigeria Ltd, Snamprogetti, Mott MacDonald, Chiyoda Corporation, and Foster Wheeler were appointed as the FEED contractors and completed FEED activities by the fourth quarter of 2007.
In July 2015, NLNG initiated early site preparation works and signed sales and purchase agreements (SPA) with five buyers, including Suez LNG and BG Gas Marketing.
Netherland, Sewell and Associates Inc have been appointed as surveyor whose scope of works includes a detailed evaluation of the gas reserves and production capability of the fields.
In July 2016, NLNG is considering building smaller Trains VII and VIII with 4.3 million tonnes per annum capacity each instead of a single big train for liquefaction of natural gas, However it is yet to finalized.
In September 2016, NLNG announced plans to raise US$15,000 million from the International Capital Market to fund the development.
Planning activities and preliminary site works are underway. A final investment decision is expected by the first quarter of 2020.
