National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) is planning to construct the Dibang Valley Hydroelectric Power Plant project in Arunachal Pradesh, northern India.
The project involves the construction of a 2,880MW hydroelectric power plant comprising 12 units of 240MW each. It will include the construction of a 288m-high concrete gravity dam across the Dibang River.
The project features the construction of related infrastructural facilities like a powerhouse, substations, vertical shafts, access shafts, head-race and tailrace tunnels and access road, the installation of turbines, generators and transformers; and the laying of transmission lines.

In 2006, NHPC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Arunachal Pradesh government.
In August 2012, the project was opposed by the local people and public hearing for the project was continuously postponed due to public unrest.
In July 2013, NHPC received the rejection from Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) due to forest land diversion plans.
In October 2014, NHPC secured environmental approvals for the project implementation.
In April 2015, the project secured in-principle approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for diversion of forest land to the project. On May 20, 2015, NHPC secured approvals from the MoEFCC.
On July 16, 2015, National Green Tribunal (NGT) filed a petition against the environmental clearance approvals granted by the MoEFCC.
In November 2016, NHPC submitted the detailed project report (DPR).
