The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking to upgrade a highway from Handia to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The project involves the construction of a 73km, six-lane highway from Handia to Varanasi. It includes the construction of access roads, service roads, bridges, underpasses, intersections, pedestrian walkways and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
In October 2012, NHAI secured planning consent.
Samarth Infra Engg Technocrats (Samarth) has been appointed as the consulting engineer.
In February 2015, the project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
On March 5, 2015, NHAI issued a request for proposal (RFP) to eight shortlisted bidders.
The shortlisted bidders include IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd, IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd, BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd, Shapoorji Pallonji Roads Private Ltd, Essel Infraprojects Ltd, Sadbhav Infrastructure Project Ltd and Oriental Structural Engineers Private Ltd. Later the tender was cancelled.
On October 10, 2016, NHAI invited Request for Proposals for the DBOT contract on a Hybrid Annuity basis, with a submission due date on December 15, 2016.
On March 15, 2017, NHAI received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
In March 2017, G R Infraprojects Ltd was awarded the construction contract on Hybrid Annuity basis.
On April 18, 2017, NHAI invited Request for Quotation to appoint a consultant to act as independent engineer services for the project with submission deadline May 22, 2017.
Construction activities are underway.
