National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to undertake the Cherthala-Ochira Highway project in Kerala, India.
The project involves the construction and widening of 83km four-lane road link at Cherthala-Ochira Highway. It will include the construction of four lane road, supporting walls, carriageways, service roads, road separators, pedestrian ways, toll stations and related infrastructural facilities, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
The project is will be developed under the National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) through public private partnership (PPP) under build operate and transfer (BOT) annuity and build operate and transfer (BOT) Toll mode basis.
Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt Ltd was awarded study contract to undertake the feasibility study for the project under NH 47 PKG I development in Kerala. The feasibility study for the proposed road section completed in 2007 and filed an application with the government to get necessary funding and approvals under NHDP in 2009.
The BOT contract was awarded to joint venture of Isolux and Soma in first quarter of 2010 and later was terminated. However, the project was put on hold due to land acquisition issues.
The project is being funded by World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) as a part of national development programs.
Smec India Pvt. Ltd. (SMEC) was appointed as study consultant.
In July 2016, NHAI commenced land acquisition activities.
SMEC is in the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) and acquiring the land.
