In September 2011, Syntheo, a joint venture of Service Stream and Lend Lease Group, was awarded design-build contract for the project. The contract is for an initial two-year term worth up to US$174 million, with an option of a further two years bringing the total potential value to US$484 million.
In July 2012, ViaSat Inc. was awarded the contract to provide ground-based communications, network management, and data processing systems for the Long Term Satellite Service component of the project and to supply consumer satellite terminals, including broadband modems and antennas.
Construction activities are underway and are scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2020.
