M. A. Mortenson Company (Mortenson) is planning to build a hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the US.

The project involves the construction of a nine-story, 203-room hotel. It includes the construction of 1,300m2 of office space, a 92m2 fitness center, a spa, conference rooms, a banquet hall, a 111m2 meeting room, 527m2 restaurant and bar on the first floor, 55m2 of board room, 195m2 of retail space, parking and related facilities and the installation of elevators, safety and security systems.

The hotel will operate on the first through eighth floors. Mortenson plans to lease the ninth floor office space to the American Academy of Neurology, whose headquarters building is immediately north of the project site at 201 Chicago Avenue South.

ESG Architects has been appointed as architect, Shea Design as interior designer and Marcus Hotels & Resorts as management contractor.

Meyer Borgman Johnson has been appointed as structural engineer.

VAA,llc has been appointed as engineering consultant.

Damon Farber has been appointed as landscape architect.

The in house division Mortenson Construction will undertake the construction of the project.

Mortenson entered into a management contract with Hyatt Hotels Corporation (HHC). HHC will operate the hotel under its Hyatt Centric brand.

In May 2015, Mortenson, Saturday Properties and Sherman Associates submitted proposals for the project site.

In June 2015, the City of Minneapolis (CoM) reviewed the proposals.

In August 2015, CoM’s Community Development & Regulatory Services Committee selected Mortenson.

On February 26, 2016, CoM approved the anticipated sale of the site to Mortenson.

In January 2017, Mortenson is in the process of securing funds fo the project.

Construction is scheduled to commence in 2017.
