MoldovaGaz JSC (MoldovaGaz), a joint venture of Gazprom, Government of Moldova and Government of Transnistria, is planning to build a pipeline from Ungheni to Chisinau in Moldova.
The project involves the construction of a 130km gas transmission pipeline. It includes the construction pumping stations, support structures and related facilities, the installation of pumps, metering systems, and safety valves, and the laying of pipelines.
On December 13, 2013, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova, on behalf of MoldovaGaz, issued a tender for the appointment of a consultant to carry out a technical, economic, commercial and socio-environmental feasibility study, with January 10, 2014, as the submission deadline.
Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG has been appointed as study consultant.
Under the terms, the scope of work for the assignment will be conducted in two phases. The first phase involves the pre-feasibility assessment of gas pipeline and the second phase involves the feasibility study for the gas pipeline and preparation of an environmental and social impact assessment.
In September 2014, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), along with the European Investment Bank(EIB) and the European Union (EU), agreed to provide US$12.9 million funds towards the implementation of the project.
In May 2015, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between two countries for the project.
In December 2016, the financial agreement for the construction of the project was signed by EBRD, EIB and EU.
EBRD provided a loan of US$43million.
On January 20, 2017, tender was issued for consultancy services provider with submission deadline as February 24, 2017.
Planning activities are underway.
