The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Serbia (MoCTI) is planning to construct a highway from Nis to Durres in Serbia.
The project involves the construction of a 384km highway from Nis in Serbia to the Albanian coastal city of Durres through to the Kosovo capital of Pristina out of which 77km will be in the Siberian territory. The Siberian territory will alone cost US$863 million.
The project includes the construction of service roads, bridges, tunnels, flyovers and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, in cooperation with the institutions of the European Union (EU), will assist in the financing of the highway that will link Albania with neighboring countries and the EU.
In March 2016, feasibility study for the project completed.
MoCTI is in discussions with EU to secure funds for project development.
The project documentation for the Serbian section of the Nis-Merdare-Pristina motorway will be ready by the end of 2017. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2020.
