Ministry of Transport, Myanmar (MoT) through its subsidiary Department of Civil Aviation(DCA) and with Ministry of Construction is planning to develop an expressway between Yangon and Bago in Myanmar.
The project involves the construction of a four lane 20.5km expressway. It will be developed in two phases.
The first phase of the project is 20.5 kilometers long. It will start from Bogyoke Aung San road at Yay Kyaw junction and will end at Mingaladon Industrial city. It is expected to cost US$620 million.
The townships to be connected along the expressway are Pazundaung, Mingala Taungnyunt, South Okkalarpa, North Okkalarpa and Mingaladon Industrial Park.
The second phase is expected to reach Hantharwaddy Airport in Bago Township.
Korea Expressway Corporation is participating as an operator, Yooshin Engineering Corporation as study consultant
A detailed study focussing for YUEX, “Data Collection Survey on Yangon Urban Expressway (YUEX)”, was commenced from the end of July 2014 to prepare the basic information for the next step of the study such as Feasibility Study, which was submitted to the Government in January 2015.
The proposed survey has been conducted by Almec Corporation, Oriental Consultants co Ltd, and Nippon Koei Co., Ltd for JICA in collaboration with the Yangon Government.
The project will be developed under the term public private partnership (PPP) project. The Government of Myanmar will contribute 20% of total project cost via an official development assistance low-interest loan.
LOTTE Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd (Lotte), Halla Corporation (Halla) forming a joint venture partnership with Capital Diamond Star Group (CDSG) submitted a conceptual proposal to the Ministry of Construction in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Feasibility studies are underway.
