The Ministry of Transport (MoT), Tunisia is planning to undertake the Trans-Maghreb High Speed Rail Link: Tunisia Section project in Tunisia.
The project involves the construction of an 870km high speed railway line, railway stations, platforms, tunnels, bridges, access roads, parking facilities and the laying of rail tracks and the installation of signaling systems, security systems and other related facilities.
The project will be developed in three sections namely Tabarka-Tunis, Bizerte-Tunis-Gabes, and Gabes-Ras Jedir.
The project will be implemented within the territory of Tunisia to link Algerian borders in the north and the Libyan borders in the south.
In January 2015, the African Development Bank (AfDB) provided the US$1.67 million funding for the study activities for the project.
In December 2015, Government's of Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco created La Banque Maghrébine d’Investissement et de Commerce Extérieur (BMICE) to finance the project.
Study activities are underway.
