The Ministry of Transportation (MoT) of Saudi Arabia and Egypt are jointly planning to construct a bridge connecting the Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The project involves the construction of a 48.2km bridge between Ras Alsheikh Hamid, in Saudi Arabia and Nabq, just north of Sharm el-Sheikh, in Egypt. It will include the construction of pedestrian ways and retaining walls, and the installation of lights and overhead sign structures.
Arab Contractors was appointed to undertake the feasibility study, which was completed in September 2014.
In April 2016, Saudi Arabia's Shura Council approved the draft "border demarcation" agreement signed between Saudi Arabia and Egypt with unanimous vote.
Planning activities are currently underway. The committee is in the process of finalizing whether the project will be financed by the two countries or through the Build-Operate-Transfer (BoT) system, in which private parties are involved.
