The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is planning to expand the Ngang Mountain Pass Tunnel in Vietnam.
The project involves the expansion of a 2.76km long and 12m wide two-lane tunnel to a four-lane tunnel, around 240-480m from the existing tunnel to the East.
The tunnel is stretching from Km591.5 National Highway 1 in the central Ha Tinh Province to Km594.4 National Highway 1 in the central Quang Binh Province.
The project will include the construction of roads, shafts, and other related infrastructure facilities, the installation of a ventilation system, lights, wireless data communication system, fire detection and extinguishing systems.
The project will be developed under build, own and transfer (BOT) model.
In January 2016, the Prime Minister has approved the project.
In July 2016, the Prime Minister has approved a policy framework for compensation, support, and resettlement for the project. Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the provincial People's Committee of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provincial People's Committee will organize the land recovery, compensation, support and resettlement for the project in accordance with the law.
