Summary

The Ministry of Transport, Government of Tamil Nadu (MoT) through a joint venture with Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) (formerly known as Ennore Port Ltd ) is planning to undertake the Ennore Port-Mamallapuram Peripheral Road project in Tamil Nadu, India.

The project involves the construction of a six-lane, 129km road from Ennore Port to Mamallapuram. It includes the construction of two service roads, flyovers, pedestrian walkways, retaining walls, pavements, and the installation of signaling systems, and overhead sign structures.

The proposed highway will link from Poonjeri near Mamallapuram, Singaperumal Koil, Tiruvallur, Thamaraipakkam, and Panchetti to Ennore and has dropped link to Puduvayal due to land acquisition issue.

STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd has been appointed as study consultant.

Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will fund up to 85% of total cost and 15% will be funded by the state government.

In April 2015, MoT prepared the detailed project report (DPR).

In October 2015, socio-economic study was completed and the report was submitted to the central government, which will then be forwarded to JICA.

The DPR has been prepared.

In October 2016, MoT seeking the external funding for civil works from JICA has been sent to Government of India.

In December 2016, MoT is seeking early approval of funds from JICA.

Tamil Nadu Road Development Co Ltd has been appointed as DBFOT contractor.

MoT is awaiting for approvals.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a six-lane, 129km road from Ennore Port to Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, India.

The US$949 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of flyovers

2. Construction of pedestrian walkways

3. Construction of retaining walls

4. Construction of pavements

5. Construction of infrastructural facilities

6. Installation of signaling systems

7. Installation of overhead sign structures
