The Ministry of Transport, Vietnam (MoT) is undertaking the Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho high-speed railway project in Vietnam.
The project involves the construction of a new 139km, 1,435m wide high-speed railway line. It includes the construction of 10 stations, 50 bridges, culverts, the installation of signaling system, mechanical and electrical system, safety and security system and the laying of railway tracks.
The project will start at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thu Thiem station or Hoa Hung station and end at Can Tho City’s Cai Rang station.
The project will be developed under public-private partnership (PPP) model.
A joint venture (JV) between Transport Engineering Design Joint-Stock Incorporated South (TEDI South) and South Korea's ChungSuk Engineering Company has been appointed to undertake engineering design works.
On July 29, 2009, three design options were submitted by TEDI South JV.
Southern Institute of Science & Technology (SIST) and Export Executive Decision Services Group LLC (EDES) are undertaking the feasibility study and are preparing to submit a final plan to the MoT.
In September 2013, project secured preliminary approval.
Upon securing approvals and commencement of construction, the project is expected to be completed by 2022.
