The Ministry of Transport, Ghana (MoT) is planning to undertake the development of the Dangme West District International Airport project in Prampram, Dangme West District, Ghana.
The project involves the construction of a new airport on 6,475 ha area. It will include the construction of runways, terminal building, arrival and departure lounge, restaurants, and parking spaces.
It includes the construction of the terminal area of 45,000 m2, cargo throughput of 30,000 tons, and cargo warehouse of 7,000 m2 as well as a car park area of 42,000 m2 among other details.
In September 2012, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the China Airports Construction Corporation (CACC) to undertake a feasibility study works for the development. The scope of agreement also includes the design and construction works.
The project will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
In May 2013, government has secured over 3,200 hectares and is in the process of negotiating the purchase of a further 3,200 hectares for the proposed airport.
In June 2013, CACC submitted the preliminary designs on the project. The design has a proposed annual passenger throughput of 4.5 million, an annual passenger aircraft movement of 33,835, and a peak hour passenger aircraft movement of 12. In addition, China Airport Civil Construction (CACC) has made provision for 13 passenger aprons. A passenger apron is the area of an airport where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refueled, or boarded.
MoT is in the process of acquiring the land for the development.
