The Indian Ministry of Railway (MoR) in association with the Government of Karnataka (GoK) is planning to develop a rail line between Wadi and Gadag in Karnataka, India.
The project involves the construction of a 256km broad-gauge rail line. It will include the construction of railway stations, platforms, parking facility and control buildings, the installation of signaling, safety and security systems and the laying of tracks.
In the first quarter of 2013, the MoR secured preliminary approval from the central government for the rail line.
In July 2013, the Railway Board was set to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on the new rail line following the preliminary survey.
In January 2014, MoR secured approvals from the planning department and the final approval was secured from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in February 2014.
On February 28, 2014, the foundation stone laying ceremony was held.
The project will be implemented with a 50:50 cost sharing between MoR and the government of Karnataka. The government of Karnataka will provide land free of cost.
As of May 28, 2015, the State government has decided to acquire 1,011ha of land for the project, however the decision has been not yet finalized on the mode of acquisition.
In September 2015, State government has set in motion for land acquisition and also in the process to provide US$4.26 million to Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to acquire the required land for the first 50km from the Wadi side and another 50km from the Gadag side. After the acquisition of the land it would be handed over to the Railways for taking up the laying of the new railway line.
In February 2017, MoR allocated US$6 million for the project.
The project is facing delay due to Land acquisition.

1. Construction of railway stations
2. Construction of control buildings
3. Construction of platforms
4. Construction of parking facility
5. Installation of signaling systems
