The Ministry of Railways (MoR) and Government of Kerala (GoK) are jointly undertaking the construction of Angamaly to Sabari Railway Line project in Kerala, India.
The project involves the construction of 120km railway line from Angamaly in Ernakulam district to Sabarimala in Pathanamthitta.
The project also includes the construction of new railway stations, signaling units, interchange sections, passage ways, laying of rail tracks and other related infrastructural facilities.
Upon completion, the proposed Angamali-Sabarimala railway line would run through Ernakulam, Idukki and Kottoyam districts of Kerala and will gain railway connectivity to the municipalities like Pala, Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Perumbavoor and Angamali.
In November 2013, the project was put on hold; however, in June 2015, GoK revived the project plans.
The US$75 million funds in the 2015-16 Railway Budget were allocated for the project development.
In May 2017, a proposal to reopen the land acquisition offices was submitted to the government.
In June 2017, permission to reopen the land acquisition offices was granted and two Land Acquisition units will be opened for a period of one year.
Land acquisition activities are underway and state government is responsible for the same.
