Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) is undertaking the Sungai Besut Estuary Conservation project in Terengganu, Malaysia.
The project involves the construction of breakwaters of 1.85km in south and 1.3km in north of Sungai Besut. It includes the construction of a steep and protected pool, a revetment, silt curtain, beach nourishment work and installation of settlement plates and related machinery and equipment.
On January 13, 2017, a joint venture of Ho Hup Construction Co Bhd (Ho Hup) and DSE Construction Sdn Bhd (DSE) was awarded a US$50 million construction contract for the project.
On April 16, 2017, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the project, marking the start of construction.
Construction activities are underway with a completion scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.
