Ministry of Industry and Trade, Tanzania (MoIT) and Government of China (GoC) joint venture are planning to undertake the construction of a logistics center in the Kurasini area of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The project involves the construction of a logistics center on 61ha of land and will be developed in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a trade hub for distribution of Chinese products destined to East and Central African markets. The second phase includes the construction of industries related to agriculture and raw materials of minerals available in Tanzania.
The project also includes the construction of a commodity exhibition area, a technical training center, office space, a service center, packaging units, storage facilities, a warehouse, and distribution units and the installation of safety and security systems.
In August 2014, the Tanzanian government released US$31 million to compensate 1,020 residents who will be affected and the Government of China will fund US$360 million for the project.
The proposed project will be developed under public private partnership model.
China is represented by Yiwu Pan-Africa International Investment Corporation and Tanzania by the Export Processing Zones Authority.
