Ministry of Energy, Thailand (MoE) and Ministry of Mines and Energy, Lao PDR (MoMEL) are jointly undertaking the Pak Chom Hydro Power Plant project adjacent to the Loei Province of Thailand and to the Sangthong District of Vientiane, Laos.
The project involves the construction of a 1,080MW (13 x 83MW) hydropower plant.
The project will includes the construction of a 1,200m long dam (the height from foundation to crest will be 55m) with discharge capacity of 5,720 m3/s, a 80.3km2 reservoir, access roads, powerhouse, substation, penstock, shaft and other infrastructural related facilities, the installation of generators and turbines, and the laying of transmission lines.
Panya Consultant Co Ltd and Macro Consultant Company were appointed as study consultants on the project.
The funding for the feasibility study of dam project was secured from Ministries of Energy from Thailand and Laos. In 2008, a pre-feasibility study and initial environmental examination of the project was completed.
Planning activities are underway.
