Summary

Ministry of Electric Power, Myanmar (MoEP) is planning to undertake the construction of a LNG Terminal in Yangon, Myanmar.

The project includes the construction of a LNG storage terminal with a capacity of 3 to 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). It includes the construction of a Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) with a capacity of 360 million cubic feet per day (MCFD), 1,000MW gas-fired power plant, a LNG jetty, gas storage tanks, a powerhouse and a substation, and the installation of generators and transformers, and laying of 200km pipelines to bring the gas to urban areas and transmission lines.

The Japan Research Institute, together with the Japan Gasoline Corp and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp has been appointed as study consultant for the project.

In 2015, feasibility studies were completed.

On September 9, 2016, MoEP issued expression of interest (EOI) to build the project, with a submission deadline on October 28, 2016.

Negotiations are underway between Total E&P Myanmar and MoEP for the development of the project.

Scope

The project includes the construction of a LNG storage terminal with a capacity of 3 to 4MTPA in Yangon, Myanmar.

The US$2,000 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a FSRU with a capacity of 360 MCFD

2. Construction of a 1,000MW gas-fired power plant

3. Construction of a LNG jetty

4. Construction of gas storage tanks

5. Construction of a powerhouse

6. Construction of a substation

7. Installation of generators

8. Installation of transformers

9. Laying of 200km pipelines
