The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Armenia (MoENR) is undertaking the construction of a solar power plant in Armenia.
The project involves the construction of a 30MW pilot solar PV power plant. It includes the construction of a substation, control units and related infrastructure, the installation of solar panels and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
The project will be financed by the MoENR, the Climate Investment Funds, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
In July 2015, construction works on 30MW pilot plant commenced.
The government intends to install over 70 MW of PV power by 2020. Of this capacity, 30 MW will come from a pilot solar plant currently under construction, which is expected to be completed by 2017, while further 40 MW will be installed by 2020.
The first stage of international tender was completed, 10 foreign companies were chosen to continue participation for the second stage to be held in September 2017. Preferences will be given to the company that will provide most competitive offer.
The construction of 40 MW solar power plant is planned to start in 2018.
