The Ministry of Energy of Mongolia (MoEM) is planning to undertake a Coal Fired Power Plant project at Shivee-Ovoo mine, Mongolia.
The project involves the construction of a 9,240MW coal-fired power plant comprising 14 units, each with a power generating capacity of 660MW.
The project includes the construction of a switch yard for power evacuation, power house, and a substation, the installation of turbines, generators, transformers, and air-cooled condenser and the laying of 800kW DC transmission lines with transmission capacity of 8million kW.
Economic Consulting Associates Ltd has been appointed as a consultant for the project.
In 2010, the negotiations were held between the Mongolian and Chinese Working groups regarding the terms of General agreement for the project.
On November 10, 2015, the State Grid Corporation of China (SGSC) and MoEM have signed an agreement on the feasibility studies.
In November 2015, Chinese government announced US$1,000 million funding for the development.
On April 13, 2016, consultative meeting was held expressing the opinion on development of the project to resolve the relevant permits and improving relations and communications between state organizations.
Feasibility study activities are currently underway, while the government is also looking for potential investors for the development of the project. The investors are required to review the geological analysis and studies which were previously carried out to check the project meet the requirements of investors.
