Agencia de Promoción y Desarrollo de Inversiones de Neuquén S.E.P. (ADI-NQN) announced plans to build the Copahue Geothermal power plant in Copahue, Neuquen province, Argentina.
The project involves the construction of a geothermal power plant with a capacity of 30MW. It includes the drilling of production wells and injection wells, construction of platforms, a powerhouse, a substation, ancillary works and a switchyard, installation of generators and turbines, and the laying of pipeline network and transmission lines.
In 2010, the Canadian company Geothermal One was appointed to develop the project but due to the environmental and administrative issues the contract was canceled and the project was put on hold for several years.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has completed the study work for the project.
An Inhouse team will be responsible for construction activities.
ADI-NQN is reinitiating the project and Y-TEC a joint venture between YPF and Conice is interested in developing the project.
Planning activities are underway.
