The Ministry of Energy (MoE) is planning to construct a hydroelectric dam on River Oti in upper east region of Ghana.

The project involves the construction of a 90MW hydroelectric dam. It includes the construction of power generation units, tail race tunnel, a raise bored shaft, a head race tunnel, spillways, an open switch yard, a concrete gravity dam and related facilities.

In October 2009, Government of Ghana and Government of Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct the project.

The two countries, Ghana and Togo are in process of discussion for the construction of the project.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a 90MW hydroelectric dam on River Oti near Pwalugu at Juallay in Ghana.

The US$300 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of the power generation units

2. Construction of a raise bored shaft

3. Construction of a head race tunnel

4. Construction of the spillways

5. Construction of an open switch yard

6. Construction of a concrete gravity dam
