Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal (MoCTCA) is planning to undertake the construction of Nijgadh International Airport project in Bara District, Nepal.
The project involves the construction of second international airport on 3,000ha of land and will be executed in three phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a single runway.
The project includes the construction of 100,000m2 passenger terminal, a 4,000m runway, six boarding gates, 34 check-in counters, six security inspection counters, 35 immigration counters, eight customs inspection counters, six baggage claim counters, waiting areas, an air traffic control tower, aprons, aerodromes, the installation of elevators, escalators, safety and security systems.
On March 8, 2010, LandMark Worldwide Co. Ltd (LMW) was appointed as study consultant and subsequently, LMW submitted a detailed project report.
In October 2014, Nepal's Government commenced land clearance and allocated US$5 million for the project.
In March 2015, MoCTCA received planning approval from the Nepal Cabinet.
In February 2016, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has submitted preliminary financial estimate of the project to National Planning Commission and Investment Board (NPCIB), Nepal.
As of May 2016, land acquisition activities are initiated for the project.
The government has appointed Nepal Army to undertake the initial preparatory works on the project.
In January 2017, WGP Global and its project partner Uniel Holdings has submitted an expression of interest (EOI) to develop the project under design, construct, finance and manage (DBFO) basis.
On May 29, 2017, the MoCTCA will issue tenders for the construction works in the third quarter of 2018, simultaneously, the government has currently working to decide the most appropriate modality for the construction of airport.
