Emirates Waste to Energy Company(EWEC), a joint venture of Masdar, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company PJSC and Bee’ah Company (Bee’ah) is planning to build a waste-to-energy plant in Sharjah, the UAE.

The project involves the construction of a 30MW waste-to-energy plant with a processing capacity of 300,000 tonnes of solid waste from landfill each year. It includes the construction of waste-processing units, storage facilities, a powerhouse and related infrastructure, the installation of turbines, and the laying of transmission lines.

In January 2017, Masdar and Bee’ah signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the project.

On May 25, 2017, Masdar and Bee’ah signed a power purchase agreement(PPA) with Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA).

On May 26, 2017, Emirates Waste to Energy Company (EWEC) appointed CNIM as EPC Contractors.
