The Ministry of Transport Romania (MTR) and Ministry of National Development (MND) Hungary are planning to undertake the development of Budapest to Constanta High-Speed Rail Link project connecting Romania and Hungary.
The project involves the construction of a high-speed rail link between the capital cities of Hungary and Romania. It will include the construction of railway bridges, stations, platforms and related infrastructure; the installation of tracks and overhead signal.
The project will be developed in public-private partnership.
In March 2014, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed with Chinese Government to begin the preliminary analysis that guides the development of feasibility studies.
MTR and MND are in discussions to prepare an application for financing the project through funds from the Europian Union. However, in the fourth quarter of 2014, MTR has put the project on hold, as it decided to complete the other regional master plan involving the roads and highways in the country.
In August 2017, the project was resumed as MTR and MND began discussions on the project plans.
MTR and MND are in the process of appointing a study consultants on the project.
The Budapest to Constanta Rail Link project involves the construction of a high-speed rail line between Budapest, Hungary and Bucharest and Constanta city in Romania.
