The Oman Ministry of Transport and Communication (MTC) is planning to undertake the Salalah Port Expansion: Phase III project in Dhofar, Oman.
The project involves the development of terminal II which includes the construction of new berths 7, 8 and 9 to increase the port’s capacity from six million TEU to nine million TEU.
The project includes the construction of new 1,350m quay walls to the port’s existing 2,205m long quay, 3.7km North Breakwater including a vertical 300m-long stub breakwater and a South Breakwater to protect the existing and future berths against long-wave energy, a new 300m-wide 19m-deep approach channel and a new turning basin (north basin).
It also includes the construction of necessary port infrastructure, excavation of the trench for the quay foundations, the reclamation and paving of the terminal area and the installation of navigation aids and safety systems.
On May 20, 2008, Government of Oman and Salalah Port Services (SPS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the project.
Tendering activities are underway to appoint study and design consultant. No specific timelines has been set for the award of main construction contract and project completion.

The US$450 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of 1,350m quay walls

6. Construction of necessary port infrastructure
